Jasmine’s Family
This family has been in a refugee camp in Jordan ever since they were forced to leave Syria in 2013. The two youngest children, 7 and 9, were born in the camp and know no life beyond it. The middle child, only 5 when they arrived, is now 15, and the oldest, 22, is mentally disabled and functions at the level of a four-year-old. She is unable to care for herself even in the most basic way and has no access to support or special care.
Their Current Life
Living conditions at the camp are precarious, and the parents have struggled to secure employment. The mother, Jasmine1, manages and protects the children while dad scrounges around the camp for bits of work for UNHCR. Work is scarce, food coupons have recently been cut, and the family’s shelter needs repair as it is leaking and has become inadequate for the cold, rainy conditions of winter. The children do not have proper nutrition, healthcare, or education, and see no future for themselves.
1Jasmine is a pseudo name used to protect the safety and security of the family while they are in Jordan.
Thank you for your kindness and support!
